Philip E. Clapp
President, National Environmental Trust (NET)
Philip Clapp is president of the National Environmental Trust, a non-partisan environmental policy and public education organization based in Washington, with operations in 20 states. He has been the organizations chief executive officer since its founding in 1994.
On May 15, 2007, the National Environmental Trust and the Pew Charitable Trusts announced that they will merge in January 2008 to create the Pew Environment Group, of which Mr. Clapp will be deputy managing director.
Mr. Clapp worked on Capitol Hill for more than a decade, as a member of the staff of the House Budget Committee, where he directed the Energy and Environment Task Force, and as legislative director to former Senator Timothy E. Wirth (D-CO). He also headed the legislative practice of the Washington law firm of Spiegel & McDiarmid, and was a consultant on mergers and acquisitions to major investment banking firms in the 1980s. He is a 1975 graduate of Harvard University.
